Thinking back to my younger years, a few memories stand out brighter than the rest. There’s my first basketball, the first time I kissed a girl (inspired by Interview With A Vampire) and of course, all those times I bunked school. But the one memory that has always been constant in my head was the first time I played Street Fighter 2 CE. At the time, I was a n00b when it came to fighter games. I spent most of my cash on platformers and racers, believing fighters lacked depth or challenge. Man, was I wrong. The first time I dropped cash on SF2:CE I chose to play with Ryu and got my ass handed to me on a silver platter…double perfect style. For those of you too young to remember SF2:CE, here’s some gameplay…
And that’s where the addiction started. Spent so much money on that arcade machine, I probably owned it twice within 6 months. My weapons of choice were either Blanka or Ryu and while it’s true I got my ass handed to me from time to time, I still dished out more whuppings than I was getting. Of course, things change over time and Street Fighter evolved, introducing parry-systems and tech-hits and all manner of other stuff. Not for me. So I put it away and took up shooters instead.
But now a new challenger has appeared.
Now there’s Street Fighter X Tekken…and for the first time in a long time, I’m moisty-thighed at the thought of getting back into the game. Sure, the old characters are all there but then there’s this…
Unf.
That’s so much gaming graphic hawtness right there. And you know what rocks? The 2D fighting aspect. None of this unnecessary 3D BS. Just pure unadulterated side-on ass-kicking, the way the good lord intended. Can I get an amen? Hell, can I get a copy today?

Nice article pfr0g. Just like there are people who can remember where they were when Kennedy was shot and murdered, there’s a bunch of us meat sacks out here, such as myself, who can remember exactly where they were when they first saw Street Fighter II, and have been playing the game and its many iterations ever since.
That being said, let’s not forget the glory that is the King of Fighters from SNK.

KOF is a great game just not my cuppa. It’s a little less instinctive to play than say SF or even MK.
That said, I’ll give it a go if it’s up there.
